Privacy Policy — Dog Friendly
Last updated: June 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Day One Foundry LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the Dog Friendly mobile application (the “App”), which helps you track your dog walks and discover dog-friendly places. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
1. The short version
- Your walk routes, distances, history, streaks, and your dog’s profile are stored on your device.
- The App uses your location to record walks (including while the App is in the background) and to show dog-friendly places near you.
- Creating an optional account uses Sign in with Apple; you may use it to save places, vote, and follow other users.
- Places you add, votes you cast, and your public profile are visible to other users of the App.
- We use a small number of third-party services for accounts, hosting, anonymous analytics, crash reporting, notifications, and purchases, described below.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking.
2. Information you provide
- Account information. If you choose to sign in, we use Sign in with Apple. We receive a unique identifier and, if you allow it, a name and a relay or real email address. You may use Apple’s Hide My Email feature. An account is optional and is only needed for community features (saving places, voting, following).
- Profile information. A display name, optional bio, and an optional profile photo you choose to add.
- Your dog’s details. Information such as a name, breed, and birthday that you enter to personalize the App. This is stored on your device.
- Community contributions. Places you add, notes you write about them, and up/down votes you cast. These contributions, together with your public profile, are shared with and visible to other users.
3. Location information
With your permission, the App accesses your device’s location to provide its core features:
- Recording walks. While you are tracking a walk, the App collects your precise location to draw your route and calculate distance, pace, and elevation. So your route keeps recording with the screen off, the App may use location in the background during an active walk.
- Finding places. Your approximate location is used to show dog-friendly places near you on the map.
Your recorded walks are stored on your device. You control location access at any time in your device’s Settings, and you can stop tracking a walk whenever you like. If you deny location access, walk tracking and nearby-place features will be limited.
4. Information collected automatically
When you use the App, certain limited information is collected automatically through the third-party services we use:
- Usage and analytics data (via Google Firebase Analytics): app events and interactions (such as starting or saving a walk, viewing a place, or viewing the upgrade screen), session frequency, a randomly generated app-instance identifier, general device information (device model, operating system version, language), and approximate region derived from your IP address.
- Crash and diagnostic data (via Google Firebase Crashlytics): if the App crashes or encounters an error, we receive diagnostic information such as the type of crash, the device state at the time, the operating system version, and a device identifier, so we can detect and fix problems.
- Purchase data (via RevenueCat and Apple): if you purchase a subscription, we receive your purchase and subscription status and a randomly generated app-user identifier used to manage your access. All payments are processed by Apple; we never receive or store your payment card details.
5. Notifications
If you allow notifications, we use Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging to send reminders and updates (for example, to help you keep a walking streak). You can turn notifications off at any time in your device’s Settings.
6. How information is stored and shared
- On your device. Your walk history, statistics, streaks, and your dog’s profile are stored locally on your device. If you delete the App, this information is removed with it.
- In the cloud (via Google Firebase). If you sign in, your profile, saved places, votes, follows, and community contributions are stored on our service providers’ servers so the community features can work across the App. Place listings shown in the App are stored in our database; some place data is derived from OpenStreetMap contributors and is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
- With other users. Your public profile and your community contributions (added places, notes, and votes) are visible to other users.
7. How we use information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the App and its features.
- To record and display your walks and to show dog-friendly places near you.
- To enable optional community features such as saving places, voting, and following.
- To diagnose, fix, and prevent crashes, bugs, and technical problems.
- To understand aggregate, anonymous usage patterns so we can make the App better.
- To process and validate purchases and manage subscription access.
8. Third-party services
We rely on the following third-party providers, each of which processes information under its own privacy policy: Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, push notifications), Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, analytics, crash reporting, cloud messaging), RevenueCat (subscription management), and OpenStreetMap (place data). We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these providers.
9. Data retention and deletion
On-device data is retained until you delete it or remove the App. If you have an account, you can delete it from within the App; deleting your account removes your account record and revokes the associated Sign in with Apple token. Some content you contributed to the community (such as added places) may remain available to keep the shared map useful, in a form not tied to your identifying profile. Backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period.
10. Security
We and our service providers use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children’s privacy
Dog Friendly is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. You can remove on-device information at any time by deleting the App, and you can delete your account from within the App. For other requests, contact us at the address below. We do not sell personal information.
13. International users
We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data-protection rules than your own.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected in the App or on this page. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
